The publication of this book coincides with the centenary of the birth of American architect Louis Kahn (1901-1974).

Kahn's work gave him an international reputation as one of the great, innovative presences in world architecture. His reputation has only increased in the decades since his death.

This new collection of photographs illustrates a sensitive appraisal of Kahn's career and work written by architectural historian Joseph Rykwert. The photographer Roberto Schezan travelled the world to photograph fifteen of Kahn's major projects especially for this centenary volume. In addition to the text and photographs are numerous sketches by Kahn and plans for many of his built and unbuilt designs.

Throughout his professional life Kahn studied the nature of public and urban space. His legacy of churches, synagogues, universities, and museums are among his most important buildings. Examples of them, along with several houses, are featured in this impressively produced book.

This is an important book on a revered architect who continues to inspire others.
