Between 1998 and 2005, the Structural Engineers Association of New York and The Museum of Modern Art, together with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Princeton University, hosted an influential lecture series in honour of the renowned structural engineer Felix Candela, a pioneer in the exploration and design of tensile shell structures.

These lectures, given by some of Candela's most eminent and creative colleagues and successors, are now available in book format, accompanied by over 200 illustrations. Contributors include Christian Menn, known for his iconic long-span concrete bridges; Leslie E. Robertson, whose projects include the original World Trade Center in New York and the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong; and Jörg Schlaich, described by Frank Gehry as the world's best living structural engineer.
