Lewis Baltz (b. 1945) was one of the first to use the medium of photography as a form of Conceptual art. He helped transform its status, turning it not only into a collector's art but also a museum art. He came to prominence in the mid-1970s as one of a group of artists included in the influential exhibition 'The New Topographics'. His 'non-judmental' matter-of-fact-images, which are often architecturally oriented, have a broad intellectual framework and draw attention to larger social and architectural patterns.
