The new building for the Udo and Anette Brandhorst Collection in Munich's museum complex‚ one of the highlights of recent contemporary architecture‚ will be dedicated in 2009. More than seven hundred works of modern and contemporary art are being entrusted to the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen. This museum, designed by internationally renowned Berlin-based architects Matthias Sauerbruch and Louisa Hutton, is located on an extremely narrow plot of land very close to the Pinakothek der Moderne.

Thirty-six thousand glazed ceramic bars in twenty-one different colours lend the building an inimitable appearance. The structure's interior is striking, albeit reserved, and gives prominence to the collection. With its technical innovations in lighting and ecologically sound climate control, the building sets new international standards for museum architecture.
