Photography  —  Backlist BACK
James Welling

Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels
119 pages
Both colour and black & white photographs.

James Welling's work has been widely exhibited in Europe as well as in North America. This book coincides with an exhibition of Welling's most recent photographs and focuses on abstraction in his work.

Welling's works addresses photography and its relation to the world. Some of the photographs selected are cameraless photographs, without any exterior referent, photograms realized at different periods in various technical ways. These groups of work are shown in relation to other series and especially those where light is obviously the central subject. James Welling reminds us that 'photography is the inscription of light', and this book is a beautiful example of his work.
