Paulo Mendes da Rocha (Vitória, 1928) won the Pritzker Prize in 2006. He received world-wide recognition for his Brazilian Sculpture Museum. His work ranges in scale, from single family houses to big town planning schemes.

This publication shows new works and projects (some of which have never been published before) the National Art Gallery, the Patriarca Square, the FIESP cultural centre (all of them built in Sao Paulo) to a chapel built in Recife, town planning proposals for Montevideo (Uruguay), Vigo (Spain) or Cagliari (Sardinia, Italy). In his text Territory architecture, Guilherme Wisnik offers us the key to understanding the work of Paulo Mendes da Rocha and the Sao Paulo context. Several final interviews with Paulo Mendes da Rocha and his collaborators offer clues to understanding his design process.
