A new monograph on this talented Austrian duo. The work of Baumschlager and Eberle is remarkable for its elegance which is achieved by a careful consideration of materials and precise detailing. Baumschlager and Eberle are conscious as one may judge from their mixed use buildings of the 90s, that colour, texture, and light play telling roles in their architecture and that precision joinery, brickwork and glazing are all equally reassuring forms of cladding depending on the context and that an expensive material like copper is capable of providing, despite its cost, an arresting and permanent sense of luxury. Sustainability, in every sense of the term, is also a prominent factor in their architecture and not least when it comes to the consumption of energy, they strive to deploy the latest methods for the re-circulation of heat for the photovoltaic generation of electricity. Among the projects featured are single family houses, apartments, office buildings and other public buildings.
