Ribbeck's small, abstract paintings present a fascinating depth and aura with their shapes such as circles, ellipses and triangles and their intense colors. In an extensive painting process, Ribbeck applies acrylic paint, ballpoint pens and felt tip pen to primed wooden fiber boards, overpaints everything with white lacquer and scratches off most of it. This creates object-oriented panels of great color luminosity. In the geometrical and often symmetrical compositions of multilayered, superimposed surfaces and lines, he reflects the most diverse aesthetic strategies of modernity, such as those of Paul Klee, Lyonel Feininger and other Bauhaus artists, but also the painting by Robert Delaunay or Hilma af Klint. Nevertheless, with his paintings he has created the oeuvre of an independent and timeless outsider.
